WHAT IS INCLUDED IN TUITION? Everything! KDA does not charge extra fees for performance opportunities or costumes! For dancers in Ballet II and up, tuition includes guest artist fees, as we frequently host master classes with world-renowned guest teachers— past guest teacher include Tiler Peck and Adam Boreland! For dancers in Ballet IVA and up, tuition also includes musician fees for when we host a live musician in class. Tuition also includes Hawaii state tax and credit card processing fees— what you see is what you pay, with no extra fees!

DO YOU OFFER A TRIAL CLASS? To take in a trial class in the Children’s Classical Ballet Program or KDA Enrichment Program, there is a $25 participation fee which gets credited towards tuition upon signing up for class.

DO YOU OFFER ANY DANCE FORMS OTHER THAN CLASSICAL BALLET? Yes! KDA’s Dance Enrichment Program offers a variety of dance forms, including a recreational ballet class.

DO YOU RENT YOUR STUDIO SPACE? Depending on the type of activity intended, the KDA studios are available for rent. Please contact us for more information.

DOES KDA HAVE PERFORMANCES? Yes! Dancers enrolled in KDA’s Keiki Ballet Program and Dance Enrichment Program participate in our annual Keiki Recital, and dancers enrolled in KDA’s Children’s Classical Ballet Program participate in our annual Ballet Concert (held at Paliku Theatre). We also have our Holiday Recital for dancers enrolled in our Keiki Ballet and Dance Enrichment Programs, as well as dancers enrolled in Ballet I, Ballet IA, Ballet II, and Ballet IIA.

DO I HAVE TO SIGN MY CHILD UP FOR THE FULL SCHOOL YEAR? Yes. KDA’s technique classes follow a syllabus based on the school year, and build upon information learned in previous classes. Performances are planned up to a year in advance, and participation fees are included in the year’s tuition. In the event of a move or emergency, please email info@kailuadanceacademy.com to discuss options.

DO YOU ALLOW MAKEUP CLASSES? Students are allowed one week’s worth of makeup classes per quarter, so a dancer enrolled in one class per week may come to one makeup class, and a dancer enrolled in two classes per week may come to two makeup classes. Class must be made up within one week of the missed class (either before or after) and must be made up within the current semester. Students in Keiki Ballet I, Keiki Ballet IA, Keiki Ballet II, and Ballet I must make up class in their level. Students in Ballet IA, II, IIA, III, and IIIA may make up class in the level directly above or directly below. Please refer to our Studio Policies for more information

DO YOU HAVE A DRESS CODE? The classic ballet attire of a leotard, tights, and a simple skirt allows students to be able to move comfortably with minimal distraction. It also allows the teacher to see the line of the leg and placement of the body to ensure that students are executing their positions correctly and safely. Not all dance outfits are designed for ballet class, and KDA does not allow students to wear costumes to class. Please refer to KDA's Dress Code Policies for more information, and feel free to visit the KDA Boutique to view a wide selection of dress code approved dancewear.

MY CHILD IS DIFFERENTLY-ABLED. IS THERE A PLACE FOR HIM/HER IN KDA’S CLASSES? Absolutely! Please contact us at info@kailuadanceacademy.com to find the best place for your child. Please check out our shoutout in the article below, written by Lillian Brooks, highlighting the benefits of enrolling a differently-abled child in dance classes!
