MEET OUR GUEST TEACHERS: Every summer, KDA hosts an incredible team of guest artists hailing from the world’s most acclaimed dance schools and companies. ASHLEY CARTER AND VANESSA MARTINEZ DE BANOS (contemporary) have taught, choreographed, and performed around the world. Based in New York City, they co-direct DoubleTake Dance Company and teach at some of the city’s most prestigious pre-professional schools including Joffrey Ballet, Ellison Ballet, Ballet Academy East, and more. BRIAN MURPHY (ballet) is a longtime friend of Ms Carolyn’s, and they have collaborated on many artistic endeavors together over the years. Hailing from Akron, Ohio, Mr Brian has had an extensive performing career throughout the Midwest and beyond, most recently working with the inclusive dance company, Dancing Wheels.

NEW THIS YEAR: Intermediate and Advanced dancers will be evaluated during the course of the program for potential opportunities including (but not limited to) a scholarship to attend the World Dance Movement International Festival! Dancers must be enrolled for the full two weeks in order to be considered for these opportunities. Dancers will be evaluated on their technique, work ethic, professionalism, attitude, and potential. Awards are extremely limited, and nominations will be announced at the end of the program.

KAILUA DANCE THEATRE: Summer Intensive students make up the ensemble for Kailua Dance Theatre’s production of “VIVALDI’S SEASONS,” premiering at Paliku Theatre on Sunday, September 15. Dancers learn repertoire during the intensive, followed by pickup rehearsals in August and September. This is a unique and valuable opportunity to perform alongside real professional dancers in a company atmosphere, and last year’s production of “HOLST: THE PLANETS” was an incredible success!
